Addition of large screen LCD TV's to the V5810 Freesat range by Sony

Date: December 31, 2009

Adding to their V5810 range of LCD TV's with built in Freesat, Sony have introduced 46in and 52in models that add value to their list of attributes.

The large screen V5810 models join a range which sits alongside Sony's recently launched W5810 and Z5810 series. These are the first LCD TV's from Sony to feature the DVB-S2 tuner for Freesat access. Freesat provides free (no subscription) digital TV satellite service to over 140 digital TV and radio channels, including BBC HD and ITV HD.

Featuring Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution screens, 24p True Cinema modes, 4 HDMI inputs and 100,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, the V5810 series are similar to the W5810. The W5810 gets the benefit of 100Hz processing while the Z5800 adds the 200Hz version of Sony's Motion Flow system.

Virtually identical to their V5500 range of LCD TV's, the V5810 has added appeal in that it does not charge a large premium for the convenience of Freesat functionality; the increase in price reflecting about the same or even less than what you would expect to pay for a stand alone Freesat set-top box.

Launched on 6th May 2008 as a joint venture between the BBC and ITV, Freesat requires users to install a satellite dish to gain access. Viewers also need a Freesat enabled set-top box or one of the growing numbers of TV's with the functionality built in.

A large range of Freesat enabled LCD and Plasma TV's are available from Panasonic, while LG have also introduced a range of LCD TV's (LF7700) with the service built in.
